Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Every Avalon guitar is hand-built by our team of luthiers in Northern Ireland. No CNC routers. No shortcuts. Just tools, time, and technique.

Each series reflects the quality of materials and level of detail. Performer is our entry point, Premier introduces more exotic tonewoods, Luthier adds rare timbers and fine craft refinements, and Master is fully custom—built only when our custom book opens.

Yes—but only through our Master Series. When our custom build book opens, you can submit a request. Due to demand and availability of materials, not every submission can be accepted.

You can purchase online on this site or directly from approved stockists (coming soon), or reach out to our sales team for help. Every retailer is carefully selected to represent the Avalon name.

From classic Sitka spruce and Indian rosewood to Cocobolo, Blackwood, Macassar ebony and Bog Oak—our tonewoods are responsibly sourced and chosen for tonal character, not just appearance.

Every handmade Avalon guitar begins with premium solid timbers, carefully selected from the finest tonewood sources around the globe. Our Gold Series features all-solid wood construction for rich, resonant sound. The Korean-crafted Silver Series combines solid soundboards with laminated back and sides — offering exceptional tone with added durability.

We use D’Addario strings as standard:

EJ16’s or XT Light Phosper Bronze (12–53) for 6 string
EJ38 (10–47) for 12 string
EJ44C (Extra Hard Tension) for some other models.

Every handmade Avalon guitar is crafted in Newtownards, Northern Ireland — the birthplace of our brand. Early Gold Series models were also built here, before later production moved to the Czech Republic. The Silver Series, produced exclusively between 2003 and 2006, was expertly constructed in South Korea.

If your guitar has lost moisture, you may notice the fingerboard shrinking slightly, a loss of tone, or even some fret buzz beginning to creep in. These are common signs of a dry instrument — and it's important to rehydrate your guitar as soon as possible. Products like Humidipak, Dampit, and Oasis can help maintain proper humidity levels. If you're unsure which option is best, feel free to contact us — we're happy to guide you on how to care for your guitar.

Silver Series guitars use a three-part serial number system. For example:

0311456 = 03 ~ 11 ~ 456
Year ~ Month ~ Production Number

So, serial number 0311456 indicates the guitar was built in November 2003 and was the 456th instrument produced that month.

Avalon guitars are finished with high-quality Nitro-Cellulose lacquer, a traditional choice known for its thin, breathable coating that enhances both tone and aging character.

At Avalon, we use medium-sized fretwire for precision and playability:

Crown Width: 2.4mm
Crown Height: 1.1mm
Tang Width: 0.6mm
Tang Width (with barbs): 0.95mm
Total Height: 3.0mm
Hardness: HV-175

Some earlier Avalon models feature jumbo-sized fretwire with a crown width of 2.9mm and crown height of 1.3mm for those who prefer a larger feel.

We use genuine Ox Bone and/or Water Buffalo for our nut and saddles.

As standard, we equip every Avalon with a Gotoh Bi-Flex / 2-way truss rod.

The standard string height at the 12th fret is set to 2.4mm (Bass) and 1.8mm (Treble). This measurement is taken from the top of the fret to the bottom of the string, ensuring our factory setup offers optimal playability right out of the box.

While your Avalon guitar is backed by a 5 year warranty, strings are not covered under this warranty. Unfortunately, we do not supply or fit strings for free, but we can recommend quality options and offer guidance on installation.
