Aftercare

A living instrument deserves thoughtful care.

An Avalon guitar is more than wood and wire. It’s a breathing, resonant piece of craftsmanship - one that will respond to its environment just as surely as it will respond to your touch. Treat it well, and its voice will only grow richer with time.

Humidity and Temperature

Wood remembers.

Every Avalon is built in a carefully controlled environment, kept at 45–50% relative humidity year-round.
This balance helps the guitar settle into its voice from the very beginning.

But once it leaves our workshop, the world isn’t always so consistent. Changes in humidity and temperature can cause the wood to swell or shrink -
altering the action, flattening the tone, and in some cases, leading to cracks, lifting lacquer, or structural stress.

Here’s what we recommend:

Keep your guitar in a space between 40–60% relative humidity.
Avoid sudden shifts in temperature. Let your guitar acclimate slowly.
Never store it near radiators, AC units, or in direct sunlight.
Never leave it in a car. Even for a short time.

Your guitar is made from different woods, each reacting at its own pace.
Give it a stable environment, and it will thank you every time you play.

Fingerboard Care

Nourish the wood. Refresh the feel.

A clean, conditioned fingerboard improves playability and extends the life of your guitar.
We recommend using a high-quality natural oil - especially for ebony or rosewood boards - to remove buildup and prevent the wood from drying out.

Our Avalon Fingerboard Oil, hand-mixed in our own workshop, is available in our shop. A few drops, once or twice a year, is all it takes.

Cleaning & Finish

A soft touch goes a long way.

To keep your Avalon’s finish looking its best:

Wipe it down with a clean, damp cloth
Buff gently with a dry, lint-free cloth
If needed, use a non-abrasive, silicone-free polish - always apply it to the cloth, never directly onto the guitar

Storage

When not in your hands, keep it protected.

The safest place for your guitar is inside its hardshell case - away from knocks, humidity swings, and direct sunlight.
If you prefer a wall hanger or stand, make sure the room is stable and the guitar stays out of heat or glare.

Even inside a case, don’t store your guitar near heaters or windows. And again - never in a car.

Shipping

A few simple steps. A lot of peace of mind.

Your Avalon ships in a hardshell case, built for serious protection.

If you’re shipping or flying with it:

Loosen the strings slightly to reduce neck tension.
If your guitar has a pickup, secure or remove the battery - it’s not uncommon for a 9V to go rogue in transit
