AS200 question.

Postby Ben » 13 Feb 2006, 17:04

Hi - I've found a Silver series AS200 that I really like, but I have a couple of questions regarding; hope someone can help...

1 - looking at the soundhole, it appears that the top is a laminate: there certainly looks to be two layers of wood. I thought these had solid tops, and laminate back/sides?

2 - the strap button on the rear of the guitar is actually a jack socket, tho it's not an electro model. The guitar in question is the only Avalon in the shop that has this odd feature - is this a standard feature?

Once these mysteries are cleared up I can decide whether I'm going to go ahead and buy the thing!

thanks,

Ben

Hi...I have a Silver series Avalon, and the top is most definetely solid.

If you look, the top looks much thicker than your average guitar; that is simply a solid circular bracing patch glued around the underside of the solid top.

Hope this helps.

(It would be cool to know why this patch has been added!!!)

Hi Ben, Sam is spot on, 'tis definitely a solid top but the extra layer of wood is a strengthener and only extends as far as the surrounding struts.

As for the jack socket fit .... :?: dunno, must have been an "ooops" moment at the Korean factory.

Cheers
