Postby ewert » 15 Nov 2012, 12:32

hello,

i´ve been searching for a new set of pins/stöckerl for my avalon legacy 32c. i only found them in a wrong size, they´re all to thin, to small for the bridge.
i´m sorry, i can´t express myself very good.

could somebody please help and answer me, where i can buy the 6 pins in the right size?

sincerly yours

Hi Ewert

This guy is well recommended from USA:

http://www.guitarsaddles.com/products.asp

Scroll down the page and he has a sizing chart. According to that, Avalons are Size 1 - same as Taylor and Larrivee.

Good luck

i´m very pleased - thank you for your helping answers.
is there a "hearable" difference between all those materials? i´ve read about pins made of "buffallo horn" or made of manmy kinds of wood or bones.

what would you say is the difference, the better material? i don´t want to save money, i want qualitiy.

what should i do?

thank you for your answers.

have a nice weekend,

your ewert

Guten Tag, Ewert!

I think that plastic bridge pins are not good enough for a guitar like an Avalon. That is why Avalon puts ebony pins on its guitars. If you try bone, tusq, mammoth, brass etc I think you will get a slightly "different" sound to ebony, but it may not be "better" than what you have now.

IMHO trying different bridge pins is a very expensive way of making a small change to your guitar's sound.

I would say change your strings often, make sure the guitar is properly set up and work on your technique so you are picking and strumming properly.
