new pickup for A330ce

Postby Riles » 05 Sep 2012, 08:06

Hello all and great news about continuing the Avalon name.

I am looking to replace the existing pickup in my A330ce. I would like to add something that has controls (volume/tone) and am looking for suggestions for a new pickup system that will be compatible for this guitar. Playing style is fingerstyle and light to medium strumming fyi.

I was told by a local guitar shop that I have an undersaddle pickup (which has 2 different pieces under the saddle?) and am somewhat limited in choices--they recommended the LR Baggs ibeam. I don't know if this is just what they have available or if there are better choices.

Thanks, Riles

LImited in choices for a pick-up? Not really. I know the Avalon guys would probably suggest a Fishman system - the Ellipse would suit your purposes. Else there is the Highlander pickup. Many people swear by transducers by K&K, which can be installed with/without a preamp and volume control and won't require any work to the saddle, and you could even blend in your existing pickup with them. I have also heard good things about Sunrise soundhole pickups. I wouldn' have thought you need a tone contol on the guitar - dial anything in from a preamp or the board/amp.

Good luck in your search and keep us informed.
