D200C Truss rod adjustment.

Postby geogu3 » 13 Dec 2005, 22:07

Just purchased a D200C and the neck has a slight bow in it, more than I like. So I checked to see if the truss rod was easy to access and it was not due to the thickened soundhole area. So I'm wondering if anyone has experience with adjusting this neck (ever so slightly) and could give me advice on the tool used and contorted poition you had to stand to access the trussrod ;>). Or if the Avalon techs can answer this question that would be great. I do have experience adjusting most truss rods or is it recommended that I take it to my local guitar tech for this adjustment? Help?

Hello Geogu3 and welcome to the forums :D

Your guitar will be fitted with a Bi-Flex truss-rod (2way) and you can use either a 5mm short neck Allen Key or 5mm Hex-ball driver both available from good hardware or autopart stores.

I find the short neck Allen Key (wrench) is easier to use for this type of truss-rod nut.

I hope this helps, if you need anymore just call :)
Cheers

Hi JB,

Thanks for your help! I finally got under the soundhole and had a go at that truss rod. Though a stint with the circus would've helped my skill level, the truss rod came around to my point of view! I would highly recommend to any reader of this post that the ball end driver is the best of the two choices you gave. This was due to the angle that you need to land the hex end is at a slight angle. The handle helped add torque to turn the rod.

This is a great guitar! The rest of my herd is sitting it out in the pasture.... javascript:emoticon('')
