When was my A32C made?

Postby dweezil » 15 Aug 2011, 09:50

Just picked up a 2nd hand Avalon. Already have a couple of Lowdens (O32 Custom and S10 12 string) and others (Taylors, Brook, Fylde) but always wondered what an Avalon might be like.

When was my Avalon made, the serial number is L001046 ?

Also is there a chart that shows what numbers tie to a particular year?

Thanks!

Hey there Dweezil, your A32C is from July 2007.

Enjoy your 'new' Avalon and welcome to the forums :D

Welcome aboard, dweezil. I daresay, JB will answer definitively on this (or stevemac), but based on allymando's recent request dating his 25 to Feb 2005 and I know my 32 at 1609 was Dec 2010, I would guess yours is somewhere around 2007. (Edited due to bizarre timing of crosspost from JB : I had 2008)

I'll be interested in your thoughts on the Lowden/Avalon comparisons - bought my L32 based on experiences of trying an O32.

BTW, if this was the A32C on evilbay last week, you got a real bargain!

Thanks for the replies!

JB, is there anything else you can tell me about it apart from it's spruce/IRW? What would the scale length be for example?

I have two Lowdens, a custom O32 (Alpine Spruce top and same appointments as 35 series apart from the bound neck) and a older S10 12 string (same body size as the current O series, not a small body). I love them both.

Will post a report once it arrives, and yes it was the one just sold on Ebarf, I thought it was a pretty good price too!

Been after an Avalon for a while...

Hey Dweezil ... scale length will be 648mm (25.5" in old money) with a nut width of 44mm, mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard and most likely a brazilian rosewood bridge. Gotoh SG381 machine heads with ox-bone nut and saddles.

Plenty there to enjoy :)

Thanks. The nut width seems to be more like 42.5 with a string spacing of 35mm which is pretty tight for me

It's possible ... some guitars are made with a smaller neck at the request of the customer but the standard neck with is 44mm.

And they would be what, may I ask? Always interested to know what people are trying on their guitars.

Had to let this beauty go, the smaller nut width just made it too cramped for my fingers.
