...for the beautiful song he wrote and dedicated to my middle son, Zac.

http://www.youtube.com/user/uncaskillet

Me and my family have been under a lot of pressure as Zac seemed to regress from a normal little boy, who just seemed to be a slow starter with speech, into a dissociative and unhappy lad, who seemed unable to cope with his brothers and sisters playing around him. It's broken our hearts to see him disapear further into himself, and start at pre-school seeming not to recognise anyone there, not teachers, not made friends with any other children and just sit in the same spot each day and play with the same toy car.

He was diagnosed as Autistic, but we are going through other tests currently to be sure he has no illness or anything else that could have caused him to change so much in a year.

Much of my musical plans/aspirations have had to be shelved, as my wife struggles to cope with Zac as well as our other kids. He is built like his dad, and as such is too strong for her to cope with, even at his young age. With no sense of danger, and very little apparent comprehension of what is happening around him, it is largely down to me to keep him safe.

I had told Eric some of this via email, and he wrote the above song the next day.

Me, Sam, Zac and my family truly appreciate your thoughts and prayers Eric, and the song is an incredible gesture, as music is a huge part of both mine and Zacs lives. Sometimes it is the only thing that soothes him. I will be sure and play him your youtube video tomorrow.

:D

Hi John,
thanks mate! I appreciate the kind words and the friendship no end!

I agree about music, someone said that 'music is what feelings sound like', and that, as hippy-fied as it sounds is what I hope Zac and people like him get from it. If we can't tell him we care, and know he understands, with luck he can feel it through us.

Thanks again for the message brother, long may you strum, and long may we hear you! :D

Rick and John,
Let me thank you both again for your generous thoughts and words. It is an amazing thing what music does in helping to foster these friendships and how this Avalon community offers such a wonderful fraternity. A group of craftsman making wooden instruments has been a vehicle to help create so much more. I've read many of ya'lls posts and you both are always so helpful and encouraging to everyone and I have certainly benefited from it as a musician and blessed by your friendship. I don't think there is another guitar company fellowship quite like this one. So props to you both and to Avalon.
Thankyou for being a positive influence to me and many others.
Sincerely,
eric 8)

Beautiful song, Eric.

I found this on wikipedia:

The word "community" is derived from the Old French communité which is derived from the Latin communitas (cum, "with/together" + munus, "gift"), a broad term for fellowship or organized society.

Trully some gifted individuals here, willing to share with others. "Hippy-fied" Rick? Too right! Long may we come together in such a manner.
