Earache from RJ!

Postby Rick Jones » 05 May 2011, 10:42

I just found this video on youtube, from when I still had my stratocaster, and I was trying out a H&K amp. I was going through a bunch of styles to see what it could do for someone on an internet forum!

I had that 1980's strat strung up with 13-56 strings......ouch!!

It's quite random, but it shows how eclectic and un-focused I am lol!

13s??? Too much into SRV territory for me - how he ever pulled off what he did on 13s, I'll never know. Have never managed anything heavier than 10s, myself and then only slow/mid-tempo bluesy stuff. Will have to watch that one tonight. Bizarrely enough, last night too, I came across on of your other early vids, on a PRS - very fluid playing, sir!!

See Rick, what have I been sayin' to ya; you got some SRV runnin' thru those mighty veins of yours bro! btw I handed a copy of Eden to my bro and am crankin' it, AWESOME...Also I saw Jeff Beck last night in a small venue here in Jax not much bigger than Ronnie Scotts and it was awesome. He is big influence for me in many ways as a "fingerstyle" electric player. But my point is some 19 or 20 yr old dude from Texas on just an acoustic opened up for him & he admitadly told us how stoked he was. I was dead center up front to the stage cuz there is no barrier in this small place. I thought to myself you could have easily done this gig and be 10 times better and more entertaining, (not to take away from this dude cuz he was good) love ya on the strat bro, wanna hear more...Anyway I got a song for ya comin' up I wrote, more on that later. Got to get back to my strat right now after last nights show, I'm still high on it!
Freeway Jam anyone?

Ahh, Jeff Beck is good...I heard him once live on the radio, and with my eyes closed I would have sworn it wasn't a guitar he was playing. He makes it sound like a different instrument, truly an innovator.

I don't have that Strat anymore....when my boys were born I decided to keep just one electric, as I rarely play in a band these days, and focus on the acoustic stuff. Somehow acoustic guitars do something for me in that I feel kind of part of them to sing/play....whereas an electric is like holding some kind of sonic weapon!!

Thanks again Eric and Boombox! :D
