Silver Series

Postby mutley2209 » 03 Mar 2011, 01:41

How long were these in production and what was the retail price? What cases did they come with? What kind of electrics? I'm gunna have a hunt for a Spruce top Silver Series sometime in April hopefully no electrics so i can put a K&K pure in there and so would like some info on them, was it only Indian Rosewood back & sides with them? I've seen some online occasionally but can't believe the prices considering they must be years old and used, some changing hands multiple times you'd expect them to devalue by half by now :?

The Silver series were in production from 2003 to 2007, the retail price started at £399 for a straight Dread with no extras up to an Auditorium Cutaway with OEM Fishman electrics at £799 if memory serves me correct.

They didn't come with cases at the start but some of the later ones were supplied with a soft case.

There was basically 4 flavours, Rosewood / Spruce or Cedar and Mahogany / Spruce or Cedar.

Laminated back and sides but with a solid top ... I mentioned the electrics were OEM Fishman, that means the pickups were made in Korea under licence to keep the price down, these are not the same as the Fishman pickups we buy direct from the USA.

Happy hunting and remember the first 2 digits of the serial number indicate the age ... 03 = 2003 ... :)

You see Mutley, that is why my virtually spotless Silver Series 'A' in Rosewood/Solid Cedar with a similarly immaculate fitted Hiscox case at offers in the region of £350 is such good value! :D

Interesting JB about the OEM Fishman pickups.....I had, just the other day, been looking at a Tanglewood hanging in the local shop for £220, with a Fishman preamp and UST. I was actually thinking that this would be the cost of the electronics alone, "how have they done that".

I didn't know they made them under license at all, thanks for the heads up!

My silver series is AS-201 CE-NO 3036361 with a great sounding Fishman. Maybe JB could fill me in on the history-woods etc. I must say,at £300 this is a very very good guitar and has become my main guitar. I guess I got LUCKY!
