Hi all, and nice to be here. As of this Wednesday just past I am the owner of a brand new, old stock Czech made Avalon D201, although I will have to wait for it`s arrival. :D

Anyway after a lot of research, and looking at older threads here, I took the plunge, and purchased one from "Everythingmusic4less" on U.S. Ebay. I know I`m taking a calculated risk here, but I hope I will be well pleased when it finally arrives.

As for the Irish Vs Czech made debate, I am rather hoping that mine will have that characteristic Avalon tone, what with the shared AXX bracing, plus the fact the Czech D`s have a closer to Irish body shape, than the other Furch models have.

I know Furch have a fine reputation, and have a similar way of doing things to Avalon, certainly back in 2005/6 they did anyway, so here`s hoping for the best.

Steve.

P.S. I loved the tone that Teddy Thompson got out of his D201 on Joolz Holland`s Later show, which is why I took the plunge.

Congrats, that will sound lovely....Avalon design and Furch build has to be a winner....I have a Stonebridge(Furch) and it's really lovely, and of course my main squeeze is an Avalon.
Post us up some pics when it arrives? :D

Finally got my D201 last night, tuned her up and had a little play. The guitar is bright sounding with good balance and a strong bass, although the trebles seem a little brittle, but a big plus is how the sound when picked or strummed hits you in waves, and you can feel the back vibrating! My Gold really does fingerpick well. I think I will change out the Tusq saddle for a nice bone one in the not too distant future.
The build quality and finish is very, very good, both inside and out, the neck with the 44mm top nut width is superb, and I love the Legacy series design traits this Czech Gold model has (Headstock shape, Bridge and rosette). The plain Ebony fretboard feels perfect to the touch, and all fretwork is immaculate. My only small quibble is the lack of a clear pickguard, is this something I can purchase from Avalon?.
To sum up if this is what Furch could produce for Avalon, then they did you proud, this is a professional grade guitar! I will post some pics in the next couple of days :D

Steve.
