k&k

Postby dale warner » 29 Aug 2010, 16:13

Hi all,
I've finally ordered a k&k pure mini pickup from Jon Press in Bristol. Are there any points I need to consider when installing it in my L325 cedar topped beauty? I'm thinking of the bracing pattern and the split bridge as being a little off the usual path.
Any suggestions or pointers will be gratefully received.
Cheers

I fitted one to my D300B with little hassle and am pleased with the results. It's a bit vague, sticking these three little pads under the bridge from inside the guitar but it isn't that precise a science anyway. I think one of the plus points of this pickup is that it is independent of saddle design as you line the sensors up with the bridge pins to aim for a balance across the strings.

k&k strap button

Hi Singlereed,
Thanks for the reply. May I ask: Did you have to enlarge the strap button hole for the switchcraft jacksocket/strap button?
Cheers

Yes I had to enlarge the strap button hole very slightly - not really on the outer edge of the guitar. I used a round file and just worked at it gently - it really didn't need much. I got a gold plated ferrule for the jack socket from ebay for not very much which improves the look. In fact I also have a totally gold plated socket also from ebay that looks a lot nicer still that I must get round to fitting - it has a kind of coarse threat that screws directly into the strap button hole meaning no nut needed inside.

gold strap button

Postby dale warner » 02 Sep 2010, 21:47

Hello again
Thanks both for the replies. The k&k from Jon has a gold 'button' already attached - it'll match the neck strap button and the tuners. Will have to wait until next week to try fitting. The match looks good though it may need just a little "glass paper on a pencil" :D .
I'll let you know how it goes and perhaps post a recording link.
Thanks

I use a K&K as part of my dual output setup, love the fact that it "hears" all the artifacts you get when unplugged. I had to make a whole second hole in the tailblock for mine, you can see my setup here;

You see Dale, your problem comes from doing it the hard way.

Not only did I get my K&K from Jon Press, but I got him to install it too!

As the meerkat in the ad says "Simples!" :D

Thanks Loki and Rick
So I've made the right choice! Visiting Jon Press and having him fit the pickup is still an option. Can't wait to hear the pickup installed.
Cheers
