Maybe not quite "classic" rock, but I've been listening to Queen quite a lot recently. A night at the opera is a fantastic album - you can listen to it on WE7 for free

Oddly, my previous post was blank with the link included. Here it is again:

http://www.we7.com/#/album/A-Night-At-T ... mId=121758

Also oddly, without the url tags it works ok, but you need the whole thing - not just the clickable link, so copy and paste, it's def worth it! :)

Scorpions 1977 "Sails of Charon" - This is one of the cleanest guitar solos i've ever heard. Uli Jon Roth was way ahead of his time.

Well there is a funny thing. When I was at school, I was mad keen on the Scorpions and as you say, Roth is a fantastic guitarist. I have a couple of solo albums on LP from around the time he left Scorpions. I think he shacked up with one of Hendrix's old girlfriends..... Indeed, Scorpions had Michael Schenker for a while too and then someone with the unlikely name of Matthis Jabs - all great players. I have to say, though, as a grown-up, I can't listen to this stuff without referencing Spinal Tap (whom I saw live in the summer).

One of my other passions in the late seventies was King Crimson although they had finished by about 1975 - and then they came back in a new guise in about 1980 with Tony Levin on stick and Adrian Belew also on guitar. Robert Fripp is present throughout just being different. Well worth checking out on Youtube.

Funnily enough, another fave is the playing of Brinsley Schwartz with Graham Parker & The Rumour - his solos are just perfectly formed, such as 'Hey Lord don't ask me questions' and 'White Honey'. Another similar era player I loved is Nils Lofgren.

The Chevy Chase video alone is enough to make that a classic.
