Avalons On Record

Postby Walesy » 12 Jul 2009, 11:57

Hi guys, just wondered if anyone here knows of any tracks by famous artists that have been recorded using Avalon guitars?

I know there are quite a few artists that have Avalons, and ive seen the Youtube channel etc, but I'd love to hear tracks featuring Avalons recorded properly!

Sinéad O'Connor's last album, Theology was recorded using Avalons, with playing by Steve Cooney.

As far as I remember they were Legacy Premiers...she's playing one of them in this clip from the live gig at the sugar club which has been released on DVD.

Cheers for the replies, i've seen that Sinéad O'Connor footage before, great stuff!

Mutley, do you know which Andy Mckee tunes were recorded using the L32C, and on which albums? And where did you find the info from?

Does anyone know if David Gray has recorded with his Avalons?

Thanks again :)

I'm pretty sure that Andy only used the L32C as his gigging guitar and that it wasn't used for recording. I think he only started using it after most of his albums were recorded.

The Lowden F32 you see on his drifting clip and the L32C were both guitars that his label, Candyrat's owner had in stock, and weren't Andy's guitars originally.

Now, he's playing a Greenfield G4, canadian luthier Michael Greenfield which was built for him...its sister guitar is for sale in Brighton...a snip at £12,995!

Was surprised how good the soundport at the top was at projecting the sound out in a small acoustic setting, seemed almost 3D so would love to hear a ported Avalon.

As for David Gray, I think he used to play Lowdens, but then switched to Martins, didn't he have a sig model with them?

Yeah that's what I thought with Mckee, as far as I know none of the recordings were done with Candyrats L32C

Whenever i've seen David Gray playing he's using a Martin, but as far as I know he does have Avalons too so I wondered if anyone knew whether he'd recorded with them?
