Just got my new L320CE!

Postby rocksteady » 21 May 2009, 23:40

Thanks Jim for a great guitar.( I knew it would be). It was received in exactly 8 weeks from the time of the initial order.
I love the new style of Hiscox cases. they are solid.
When I ordered it I optioned for a low action set up which it has, and a semi- gloss finish which was beautiful. Everyone keeps touching the flamed Rosewood because it looks 3 dimensional. The inlay work is awesome. It really sets off the guitar cosmetically.
Daylight to dark from my A201 in sound and the general feel of the guitar.
My A201 is an awesome guitar in itself. It has such a warm and extraordinary resonance in the wood that everyone remarks about and is perfectly suited for finger picking and strumming. It sounds like I have a natural reverb when I play the guitar.
the L320CE Does not have that dark, warm sound, It just rings incredibly with an even bass to treble response between the strings and wood. I have not played any other guitar like it in a long time. Very responsive to the fingertips or a pick, and easy to fret. Very fast neck. I am Very picky when it comes to guitars.
I can't wait to see what it sounds like when the wood "opens up" later on in time.
When I first picked it up and strummed it, My heart dropped because the strings sounded terrible. Especially the 3rd (g) string. It had some weird secondary modulation going on that was very annoying. I thought " Oh God, there is something wrong with the guitar. I decided the guitar was too beautiful to sound that bad, So I decided to change the strings. I then put my trusty D'Addario Phosphor/Bronze lights on and THEN the guitar came to life. Beautiful.
I don't know what the deal with the other strings was but they were terrible. Bright and tinny and defective 3rd string. They were D'Addarios I think, but not the same as what I put on.
Anyway, Other that that small issue, the guitar is a treasure that I will enjoy for many years.
Hey Jim, thanks man, My wife says "It is very pretty" You know what I mean. :D :D

Our town here in the US is officially named Middlesborough. It is the sister city to the one in UK.
Although my birth place is in the US, My Mother was born and raised in London England and many of my relatives are from England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland. There is a special connection that I have to my two Avalon guitars as they were made in the land of my Heritage. It's hard to explain, but I feel that there was no other choice for me in a guitar. The A201 was previously owned, but I feel like it has the right owner now, but this L320 was made for me. It was nice to smell the newness in it.
I appreciate the comments. The guys at Avalon did a wonderful job once again.

Beautiful guitar. You're a lucky man :)

Without wishing to offend anybody from Middlesborough in the UK, I bet your version is a lot nice than ours.....

Hmm....
First, I agree about the feeling you have for a new guitar.
I have had my new A100 for 2 weeks now, and it seems as if I have had it forever. Great guitar. It still smells of... new guitar?
There a is a song you should hear by the "Teeside Fettlers". I play it now and again. It was born of the steel works of Middlesborough and of the fabulous surrounding countryside of the Yorkshire moors. It's called 'Ring of Iron'.
The songs of North East England (and of Wales and Northern Irelandand of all of these islands) tell you far more about the place than any photographs can.
It's great to have all these UK names in the States and elsewhere - There two Durhams (NH and NC?). Helps to keep the bond between us strong.
It would be good to visit Kentucky - I bet there are great songs and I know there is great whiskey!
Cheers, Nigel

Here is a couple of pics where I live in Kentucky. Mind you this is just a small town. We have many very large cities also, to dispel the typical Kentucky stereotype

If you would like to see any more just put Middlesborough or Middlesboro Kentucky in google
I thought I was going to get to come over and visit my relative with my Mother this year, but I guess it will wait until next year,
Thanks again JB. I am going to go play my guitar now... :D :D

Well my L32C is on order - probably 5-6 away now...
I'm not sure whether visiting this forum is good for me while I wait!

Congrats on your guitar - It sounds wonderful, and I'm certainly hoping for the same level of experience :)

Cheers from OZ,

Adrian

I still can't get over how 3 dimensional the back wood grain is. It looks like a mountain range on a topographical map. I own a Koa Carvin C450 Nylon and 3 Koa electric guitars from the 90's that are made out of Koa (when you could get the good stuff) and it does not compare. One of them, a flamed Koa 1981 Electric which has a beautiful wood, very iridescent, but not like the flamed Rosewood.
Ha! My mother thought it looked like a table top :D

Hi is the L320CE customized? What wood is the back/side? It doesn't look like typical EIR, but more like Brazilian!
