you have to be careful also to sand the bottom of the saddles evenly. You can't put too much pressure on either end or in the middle, and make sure that your saddle is angle at the bottom if it is that way originally. I have made a few from scratch ( and wasted a few). I think there is a thread about this somewhere . A bit tricky but go slow and recheck often. Don't sand too much at one time.

Check the neck relief first: the classic way is to hold down the low E string at 1st and 17th fret. Then look at the gap between the low E and the 6th fret. This should be very small, just so you can slip a business card through. Any more space than that means you should tighten the truss rod. My experience has been here in Sweden that neither shop nor the average Joe knows a lot about these guitars. So you find unsold avalons in shops with awful neck relief and high action and the owners go "it's supposed to be like that". Some don't even know that the truss is adjustable.

I recently bought a used A25 in this condition. I tightened the truss and removed the shims and now it plays like an electric almost.
