WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST GUITAR

I don't know if this question has ever been asked on this forum.--What was yor first guitar--My first guitar was a very strange guitar indeed.I was eight years of age and went to see my eldest brother preforming as one of the Beatles in a B.B. "boys brigade"diplay in our church.

I'll never forget that night,the curtains on the stage came back and there was big bro singing or miming the 1965 hit" HELP" It was there and then I new what I wanted to be when I grew up"a guitarist/singer.

Everone seemed to go crazy with excitment,I'd never been so excited in my short life.After the show my brother put this guitar in the back of are family car.On the way home I asked who owned it,to my suprise he told me I did." WOW THANKS"

When we got home I took the guitar into my bedroom, stood up on the bed with the guitar around my neck and played every song I knew.It mattered little to me that the guitar was made of cardboard--I love it!

A couple of weeks later my two older brother's where fighting each other and guess what--you got it --the guitar got smashed--If only Avalon had of been about at the time I would have taken it to J.B. but no the bin men took it away-Sad or what. Anyway about three years later my eldest sister fell out with her boyfriend, he called up to are house and give me the guitar my sister had bought him for Christmas.

That guitar which was my first real guitar was a EKO RANGER, and that was the beginning folks of my love affair with acoustic's. By the way my sister married that guy a few years later but I kept the guitar it was MINE!

My first instrument was a banjo. I was about 4 or 5 years old. I loved it. I used to sleep with it. One night I rolled over on it and broke it, along with my heart Then dad bought me a Ukelele. I don't remember what happened to it.

My first actual acoustic guitar was a red sunburst Ovation Applause. It had an aluminum fretboard. I wore it out.

Mine was a no-name solid top acoustic made in an Israeli kibbutz which cost me £40 new. It played pretty well although the tuners tended to slip and the frets wore quickly. It did the trick for a year or so until I got an Ovation Balladeer for a 21st birthday present. Funny thing was, I tried out loads of handmade guitars from the likes of Fylde and even an old Gibson but was not sufficiently au fait with what was what to make a more informed choice and the Ovation felt more like the electric guitar I had really started with....

Mine was a Yamaha, the cheapest one they make. It had a sunburst finish, and it was the business. I upgraded to another Yamaha and gave the old one to a mate, he's still got it. I played it about a year ago, and it's not too bad - just very quiet.

Yeah, the Applause acoustic, which was a sub line Ovation, came with an aluminum fret board. The frets wore down on it after a few years. No way to fix it except replace the fret board which was not economical. aluminum is not that strong... I don't think it was my playing:) but just the nature of the metal

Mine was a bass guitar ... a big blue Fender copy and it weighed a ton sounded good though, it seemed to have decent pickup but it's too long ago to remember anything more than that !

Greypicker, you've set me off on a nostalgia trip too!

My first guitar cost £6-7s-0d (in 1962 - well predecimal!) and was a badly made Spanish lookalike but with steel strings and a tailpiece. Dire.

Soon replaced by a Framus f-hole guitar for the (actually quite expensive for my family!) princely sum of 16guineas! Excellent neck. Odd sound.

Eko Ranger came next for me too, with a Jap Epiphone flattop taking over in the early 1970's. Both adequate for the money, but nothing special.

First good guitar came in mid 70's when I blew an indecent amount of backpay on a new Guild D35 - I loved it to bits, and it was my main, and indeed only, guitar for 20 years until the lure of Lowden took over, and has remained to this day, though Fylde now also provides an alternative voice.

Hi All,
Mine was a late 60s Shaftesbury Barney Kessell copy. I thought I was T Bone Walker. Loved the guitar but got persuaded to swap it for an Antoria Les Paul . Bought a couple of Shaftesbury BKs about three years ago but it wasn't the same - the action was far too low for a start. The original cost me £70 (earned doing a paper round) in 1978. It was probably 3rd / 4th hand then.
Nice to post again - it's been a while.
Still haven't put a pickup in my Avalon and it's still not been out of the house - shame!

Mine was an Spanish guitar (I live in Spain ). My mum's uncle gave me the guitar as a birthday's present when I got ten, I guess.
That guitar crashed around one year later and I probably had learnt a maximum of 4 traditional Spanish songs (that my sister taught me).

Then, I bought (with my money and some help from my daddy) my first acoustic, It was a Roderich Paesold really really cheap (the equivalent to 30 euro) , but a I got really good moments with it.

It's still here, with me, more than 30 years later (sounding awfully...)

I also had an EKO, it was a 12 string but I only ever strung it as a 6 string! It sounded and played terribly but it was built like a brick **** house and took all the abuse I could give it
