My first Avalon ...

Postby SimonC » 03 Apr 2009, 20:30

So the story goes...
Having owned a Seagull S6 for almost 14 years -I have hankered after a handmade Irish guitar for many years. Was surfing the net this week and well, well, well Jim at Avalon had a lovley ex demo/NOS that was right up my street!

With my Seagull being a Cedar/Wild Cherry combo - I was keen for something a little different. My Seagull has been a faithful friend over the years and even though I contemplated getting a pick-up in to it - I just didn't want to take the risk of damaging the feel of the guitar or the tone..so I also wanted something with electrics installed.

And here it is .. not the most common Avalon as Jim told me there are not many of these Irish Built (Gold Series) A100CE's about.. Spruce top and Mahogany back and sides.. Simple look and fantastic sound ..

WOW! This is a beautiful guitar Simon --this is the type of guitar after playing it for six hours, you could put on a stand and look at it till the sun came up.

Cheers Mutley. TBH - I have never been sure about cutaways as I'm not the biggest of "lead" players - but after playing a few cutaway Avalon's and Lowden's I have really come round to them - I think you get a punchier sound from them and better projection possibly down to the body shape.
