Setting the action on an acoustic

Postby lewddude » 13 Feb 2009, 17:10

Real basic question. I notice my Avalon does not have a trus rod, so over time as the neck needs adjusting for what ever reason, lets say the action is too high due to bow, how do you adjust? do you "bend" the neck? or Re-set the neck? or are there other tricks?

Thanx,

Lewd

Hey Thanx John! whataya know... it's behind it, just like you said. Clever.

Thank you Sir,

Lewd

It does have a truss rod, but it is cunningly hidden! Look inside the sound hole where the neck joins and there, probably hidden behind a strut, is the bottom end of your truss rod! :D

You need a 5mm hex ball allen key to adjust!

Hope this helps

John

Thanks John for posting the info quickly.

Here's some more things worth noting Lewd, you need to determine why action is higher or lower before adjusting anything, for example, if the soundboard has raised but the neck has the correct relief then you don't really want to touch the truss-rod, lowering the saddles would be the better option, etc etc

Never touch the truss-rod unless you're sure ;)

Thanx JB. Yeah, I removed the shims under the saddle, and that is just about right. I dont think I am gonna put a fishman in, but if I do, the saddle will have to be trimmed abit. As it stands right now, this A12 is Angelic... I can't put it down.
