New pickguard

Postby drmar120 » 21 Apr 2008, 15:18

I'm thinking of removing the transparent pickguard on my A201 and replacing it with a new thin tortis pickguard--the reason being to cover some pick rash from the prior owner. Is there any danger of this damping the sonority of guitar? Thanks...

A "very thin" scratchplate should not dampen the sound to noticeable levels but impossibe to be 100% on that until you try.

Out of curiosity, whats the best way to get the old pickguard off? I remember fitting one to my avalon and they stick pretty hard!

Best way is to dab something like surgical spirit at one edge and slowly and carefully peal back whilst dabbing more spirit as needed to disolve the adhesive.

Be extra careful on shell parts !

Have fun !

Well, I had the work done by a local repair guy, and it came out fine. The new pickguard covers up the pick rash, it looks great and sounds fine. I know some people like the look of a guitar without a dark-colored pickguard, but I kinda like it on my A201. It's a handsome tortis guard semi-custom made by Terrapin.
