kimbara classicial guitar

Postby MIKE 450 » 08 Apr 2008, 21:59

Hi everyone I have a beautiful little kimbara acoustic which was given to me 10 years ago by a lady I was working for, she was going to throw it out she told me it was over 50 years old no one played it etc. When I got it home and put a set of nylon strings on I was blowen away by the sound.
Inside the soundhole it says KIMBARA Specially Made in Japan for FCN LONDON if your visit www.myspace.com/michaeldickinson1 and click on to my photo's you can check it out. I was wondering has anyone heard of FCN LONDON are they still about as I would to know more about this guitar and this might sound insane but can you put light steel strings on a classical guitar.

FCN ? - Fletcher, Coppock and Newman I think it stands for -

- UK distributors of various musical thingies made elsewhere, stuff like that!
Bye now
Keith
PS DON'T put steel strings, no matter how light, on that guitar if it was built for nylons!

There's loads of people who could give you better advice than I can on which nylon strings to use - I'm not really into nylon stringers, though I do have an Almansa classical that I enjoy if I sit with it long enough. For what it's worth, I use Savarez Alliance High Tension strings which seem to work well for my guitar. There's loads of others to chose from though - I'd try a medium or even low tension set first and see how your guitar copes!
Good luck
Keith

it just means your post was moved to the appropriate forum ... "General Guitar Chat" as it isn't Avalon related ;)
