Plugging into PA

Postby donsopp » 14 Dec 2004, 00:22

My Tanglewood amp of 30W power seems to have 'cowped' and the sound seems to disappear. I would have access to a Peavey portable PA so my question is "Can I just plug into the jac of the Peavey, or do I need a DI box?"

You can just plug straight into the PA if you really need to, but you'll get a much nicer sound through a DI box. the DI makes the signal into a balanced signal which works a lot better with a PA system.

Ultrasound!

I have their 'practice amp' and external mixer, and have run my three-piece band (guitar, fiddle, voice) through the amp in a medium-sized coffee shop setting to good effect. I'm sure their bigger amps are just as good, if not better.

Yep... Ultrasound all the way!

I've tried everything except the Pro 200. They are the most natural sounding amps I have ever heard!

New amp

Having gone and looked, I have invested in a Behringer Ultracoustic acx 1000 which so far is giving me a very nice sound. Also like the built in signal processing. Got a good price in Matchetts in Belfast

I have tried (and really liked) the Marshall Acoustic Soloist series. The AS50R is 50w with a good chorus effect and is pretty light. Going rate is about £200 new so is good value too.

try the AER compact 40 you wont believe it.
i think the AS50R MARSHALL is the best there is for under £200
but for under £500 nothing touches the AER

+1 on the baby Marshall. I play through one every Sunday and it is GORGEOUS (and it has an XLR out on the back which takes it to the PA. Very handy!!
