Difficulties for a non English speaker

Postby Lentin » 24 Apr 2007, 09:27

Hi, mates.
I've had a look at the memberlist. Most of members are from UK or USA and someone from Australia.
The number of people from non English countries is very very small.
I don't know if I'm the only one, but sometimes it's very hard for me to follow a thread when you talk about the different parts of the guitar (Truss rod, machine heads, purflings, and so on) since they are very specific terms not easy to find in a standard dictionary.
It would be a very nice idea to have a picture showing ALL parts of a guitar. I have not found it in internet (yes with some but not with all).

Does anyone accept the challenge?

Regards

Hello Lentin,

I'm one of the few non-English native speakers on this forum. I too had difficulties at first understanding some of the specific terms. But reading articles on the internet, in magazines, etc. helped a lot. I also have an English book about the guitar in which all parts are mentioned. Now I've become more proficient in the English guitar vocabulary than in French or Dutch, which I speak daily !

Having read many of your posts, I assumed English was your first language. Your English is better than most of my students.

We don't speak English on this side of the water, either (if one is to believe the British).

Chris,
I'm Spanish. That means that English language and myself will never be great friends.
About guitar, I haven´t read too much, and this is the first time I belong to a forum list about guitar. That means that I ignore the proper terms even in Spanish for some parts, and most of them in English.
But I believe in myself  (and in JB, of course)-
Regards.

Well, don't feel bad - I didn't know what purflings were either!

The English invented the language - we made it work!
