A200 fretting out

Postby p90Paul » 16 Dec 2004, 22:07

Hi there,
After months of trying various "big name" guitars I eventually purchased a new A200 from Sound Control early in 2004. I have played mainly electric over 30 years so prefer light strings and a low action. I soon found and removed the shim under the bridge which dropped the action to around 4mm on the bass side and 3.5mm on the treble at the 12th fret. Still high compared with two other acoustics I own but the top E string frets out above the 13th. Any suggestions on why this happens.I have had similar problems on old Les Pauls and have ended up having the fretboard planed !

Hi & welcome

Sounds like a high fret (or two!) - I'm sure one of the Avalon guys will advise...

We set the action at 2.5mm on the bass and 2.00 mm on the treble. We measure this as follows, from the TOP of the 12th fret to the bottom of the low E string = 2.5mm and from the top of the 12th fret to the bottom of the high E string =2.00mm. This is set using 12-54 guage strings. If you use lighter strings we would recommend a higher action say .5mm higher than this because lighter strings oscillate more and therefore increases the probability of buzzing. The relief of the neck should be .011. If you have any problems with this set up as ever it would be advisable to get the guitar back to the dealer and have then check it over, they could contact us directly if they see anything that warrants our attention. Hope this helps
