AXE bracing

Postby new hat » 10 Nov 2006, 08:38

Hi. I found this image of the AXE bracing:

I'm just wondering a bit about the braces outside of the X braces. On a standard X braced guitar, these would be finger braces running perpandicular(ish) from the lower arms of the X braces. These run parallel(ish) to them starting from the upper X arms. How does this effect stiffness in that area? I'm just really curious about it because I've never seen it before.

Thats not actually the proper AXE bracing ... that's the Lowden bracing.

The Avalon AXE has a strengthened waist area. The image below is of one of our parlour style guitars.
On the larger L, A and D body styles there are 3 long finger braces instead of 2 on the lower part of the X

Hope that makes things clearer :)

Whats the difference between AXE and AXX bracing? Is there a similar picture of the AXX style?

I'm surprised the Avalon AXE bracing is so different from the Lowden bracing.
Jim, what is this parlour style guitar ? Do you mean an S ?
I'm also interested in the difference in purpose and sound of the AXE and AXX bracing.

And if I may add a question to that, what is the main differences between the AXE and a more traditional X- or A-bracing? Judging from the pictures it seems a bit like a hybrid of both, so to speak.

When you decided to go with a pin bridge instead, did that affect your way of bracing?

Well, regardless, the result is absolutely wonderful... :)

Wow, that's really interesting. I'm surprised they're so different. The parlor bracing doesn't seem different in any way I can notice.

The parlour is smaller and has a narrower waist than the S shape I think. I can't find a pic of an avalon parlour. Here is a random one:
