Time for action

Postby Loki » 17 Sep 2006, 15:31

OK. Confession time. Not all the guitars in the house are Avalons.

In defence I wish to enter that Avalon do not make an all mahogany body!

That's probably why I'm having to post here to find a responsible, very competent and professional I could entrust with sorting out an overly high action on a Martin D15 and identifying any other improving tweaks that might be needed.

I'm lucky enough to live only a few miles from the Avalon workshops in Newtownards ( cough, cough.cough  :) :) )

Ideas, even by pm, greatly appreciated...

Hi Loki

We may not make an all Mahogany guitar as a standard model but remember we're more of a custom shop than a "factory".

We've made all Mahogany guitars for customers in the past as well as all Walnut, all Koa etc etc :D

There are quite a few people call in and see us to discuss having a custom guitar build ... you'd be most welcome to visit or phone.

As for repairing / adjusting your Martin .. we also do this work to any make of guitar

Perhaps I should just pack up and move to N. Ireland so I can "test" out all those guitars. There should be someone there to make sure they sound okay...

That would be the job of my dreams.

Just thought that I should close the file on this as it were.

In the last episode the non too subtle hint on sorting out a Martin D15 was picked up on by the kindly Avalon people.

In the final instalment we find that the guitar was left in the work carried out in a great time frame, with great attention to cosmetic improvement as well as well sound stuff like a bone saddle etc. all at an extremely fair price.

The guitar now looks better, plays better and sounds better than it ever has done.

Thank you, good people- even if you couldn't turn it in to an Avalon :D

Now, if only they'd install one of those Star Trek-style transporters, so I could beam my guitars across the Pond for proper care...

I've often thought about this. The question remains in my mind, "Would my beautiful wife still be a half hour late to everywhere she goes?"
