Split bridge and DADGAD

Postby johnmccartin » 25 Jul 2006, 15:27

I have a problem with the 2nd string (B/A) on my Lowden and Avalon playing sharp from about the 4th fret up when I'm playing in DADGAD. I was playing Noel Ryan's Lowden lately and I noticed that the bridge isn't splita and his guitar plays in tune the whole way up. Is that the answer and if so, can my guitars be changed?

I would be similarly interested to know about the Avalons and DADGAD - will the golds and legacys be absolutely stable using Elixir 12-53s, and are their necks happy in these circumstances?

It's very unusual for a split bridge to be "less accurate" than a straight bridge, even a compensated one.

All saddles whether split or straight have a radius in the top edge where the string rests, it is possible to reshape/sand these forward or back to influence intonation ... the amount is extremely small but it does work.

A neck can be affected by lower string tension due to alternate tunings but dropped D or DADGAD isn't normally a problem.
