I've recently been thinking about 7 string guitars. Now that I've just bought my Avalon I'm in no position to splash out (My wife would almost certainly sell me into slavery at best...)

The Idea seems intriguing to me, Wikipeadia claims the acoustics are generally tuned to an open G chord so we have D G B D G B D while the modern 7 string electrics are tuned like a six but with a low B or C.

Has anyone ever had any experience with 7 strings? What do they sound like and are they harder to play than the regular sixes?

:D Jim :D

Thats actually not quite what I was thinking of. I was looking at guitars with 7 individual strings rather than the usual 6 with an extra double string. It's an interesting idea though. Have a read of this:

Sure he's fast but to be honest I can only watch/listen to that sorta playing for about 30 seconds then my eyes and ears glaze over and I become numb and bored :( but never mind the playin' ... why's he got a gladiator helmut behind him .... what's all that about  :?:
