In another forum I wrote:

"I feel my 'feeling' has gone away these days, no inspiration and really bad playing."

The Greypicker, answered:

"Don't feel too bad, Lentin! Most of us feel that way all the time :D "

Talking seriously, I've got the perception that most of the people writing in this forums are pro or semi professionals. (I'm just a simple man who tries to plays guitar, and always for myself in my room).
What do you think?

And, do you often suffer this awful periods with no inspiration at all?

Absolutely Lentin ... you're not alone, I frequently get the guitarists version of "writers block" ... thankfully it always goes away :)

I'm certainly not a pro, or even semi pro. I like to write songs simply for the satisfaction of doing it too.

i find that when I've written a song that I've really felt strongly about I get a period where I need to leave the guitar for a while to recharge the batteries.

To repeat what JB said, don't worry, it will come back. To add my own bit, don't force it. Let it take it's own time (what is 'it' anyway?!)

:) Jim.

Alfred Hitchcock once said that, "Drama is just life with all the dull bits removed."

Performance art is like that. There are cresendos and dimuendos. Plateaus and dull spots that you, as an artist, just have to live through. Sometimes practice can show you a way around your block. Personally, I've tried to leave the guitar alone for awhile but all that happens is I forget stuff. I think that continuous playing, no matter the level, is the silver bullet to progress. Keep at it.

Me? An artist? As we would say in Spanish...
JAJAJAJAJAJA :D

That's what I wish, mate.
The thing I love most in life is music, and playing guitar.
I have never met anybody with lower capacity to hear the music and retain the notes or the melody, and nobody with fingers so... I do not find words to describe them

Well, I am old enough to assume this and not to get down every day. But it is a pity.

But I love my Avalon and I'm pretty sure my Avalon will love me. :D

After reading the Greypicker post, I have just searched in Google by 'Zen Guitar'.
Dunno why, the page that has come back to me was directly translated to Spanish.

This is the original from the Zen Guitar web page:

Based on the spirit and principles of the Japanese dojo, it is a participatory community that seeks to elevate the human spirit through music.

This is the automatic translation done by the web translator:

'De acuerdo con el alcohol y los principios del dojo japonés, es una comunidad participante que intenta elevar el alcohol humano con música.'

And this is what this translation really means to the Spaniards:

'Based on the liquors, spirits and principles of the Japanese dojo, it is a participatory community that seeks to elevate the alcohol level in humans through music '.

Yeah, probably this is the best description for some musicians I've seen in years... :D

Apart from that, I will try to get something different from the web.

Talking seriously, thanks for your comment. I'll give it a look.

Self doubt

Postby gcard24 » 22 Sep 2007, 22:46

Self doubt is the reason for trying, its painfull but at some point you have to check where you are, it is for yourself that you play, enjoy it, and others will.
