Rick's Got Some New Tunes Up and a new EP out

Postby boombox » 14 Feb 2012, 13:53

Just a heads up to those of us out there who follow erstwhile regular poster Rick Jones. Noticed last night he has some new tunes up on youtube from his new EP "Thought and Memory”, which are well worth a listen - I really liked 'Wolves'.

Can't post a direct link at work as yt is blocked (how dare they?! :wink: ), but search out another tune from one of the links below in this sub-forum and you should be able to find them on his main video page.

Here's a link to the Guitar Jar review for the EP I just found: http://www.guitarjar.co.uk/features/ep-review-thought-memory-rick-jones/

+ 1 for me on Boom's comments. I am a big fan of Rick and I still keep his first EP on tap in my car. I'd love to cover "The Sun Sets in the West"; but I could never do it justice. I also like "Wolves" on the new EP too. RJ has such an original signature about him between the whole connection of his playing style, lyrics and melody. I don't think he can be catagorized which is part of his brilliance. Here is this big bear-like figure who pours out thunder in one passage and grace in the next. This is why I nicknamed him last year; "Thunder and Grace".

I know we don't hear from him much due to the internet issues he commonly has over in the C.I., but nevertheless, here's best wishes and success to Rick Jones, cheers! :mrgreen:

Hey thanks guys! Really cool of you to post this Boom, and Eric, feel free to cover 'sun sets', I'd absolutely love to hear you do that song!

I don't have actual copies of that EP, it's kind of a long story, but I had and subsequently lost a distribution deal when I was trying to get that one recorded, and it wound up not being economically viable (or possible) for me to get it printed. There is a five track download version on iTunes, but there's no CD to speak of... yet. The whole experience put me right off the music scene, and even off playing for a while.

It's been a tough year, gigs haven't been coming in like they used to, family life has been strained and I've had to try and find a more sensible way of making a living. Unfortunately, that hasn't left me any time to even open my guitar case. Hopefully it will all level out soon and I'll be able to get back to making a racket! :D

I really appreciate the kind words guys! Thanks!

Thanks guys!

Here are some of the new songs;

There's two more on the EP (or supposed to be!)... it's a bit more multitracked than I imagined, but I like the sound signature a lot. The producer understands the need not to squeeze the dynamics down, and has a great ear. Here's his site; http://www.wilson-nash.com/Wilson-Nash_Recording/Welcome.html
