Original song I recorded on my Avalon....

Postby Rick Jones » 15 Jun 2010, 23:51

...percussive stuff, recorded my L32 infront of a neumann U87 and took a pickup feed from my magnetic soundhole pickup too.

She does the fast attack transient stuff very well for a big rosewood bodied guitar....in the past I've always used a small guitar for this kind of bare finger slap/thump stuff, but the Avalon does just fine!

Hey the engineer from this session asked me if he could borrow my guitar for another artist to use today....unfortuneatly for him I am gigging with it later tonight, so he is outta luck.
But goes to show that it works!! :D

I can understand the engineer wanting to borrow the L32 - the dynamic range on the bigger Avalons is tremendous and you can get all sorts of contrasts in the tonal range.

Singer songwriters want that "one man band" effect and the Avalons manage to give you percussion, bass and musicality all in one. When I compare my Avalon Eclipse Jumbo to my Martin J40 it is like comparing a box of fireworks to a box of candles!

Let's hear more!

Long may you strum!

Thankyou very much John!
That "one man band effect" is very much what I do, and the Avalon is the best for this of any guitar I have tried. I love those eclipses....very beautiful guitars, I can only imagine how good they sound.

The engineer liked it beacuase we were set up with minimal fuss and he got a great sound raw, before any eq/fx etc and we added the magnetic soundhole pickup to the mix because it smoothed out the attack in what is a fairly "slappy" choppy song full of transients.
I think the next person in to record had a guitar that didn't record as well, and didn't have my particular soundhole mag, which is a bit special as well as the Avalon.
What's funny is that said engineer has about 9 guitars of his own, from Martins to Stonebridges and even a ££££ custom made dread that is amazing to play.

Thanks again for the kind words....I'm midway through a 9 track CD session at the moment, I will post some more as we progress!
