spliting at the curve in the wood on the side of the body

Postby Linde1212 » 28 Nov 2007, 03:44

I bought a S32J in Oct of 2005 from Mandolin Bros. in Statten Island. It was perfect. I played it, I loved it. I took it home to Hawaii. In Oct. of this year I noticed "fraying" at the curve of side body where the cut away has the most dramatic curve. It is not from dropping or a ding. It looks like an over bent wood like when I made a skif once and the wood started to split in little hairs at the bend. I took it to a guitar repair shop and he said it was a crafting problem. He wpi;dn't touch it. He said to contact the manufacturer. What should I do? I know it was not there when I bought it. Is this going to continue (splitting)?

Hi Linde1212,

The biggest help for me to understand the problem would be to see some good quality, close-up digital photos of the area in question.

Please send them to ----- jim at avalonguitars dot com ----- and I'll advise you.

Best regards
