Can lotion harm neck finishes/fretboards?

Postby JRenn19 » 23 Mar 2006, 01:29

Hey JB, or anyone who might know this up there at the factory, I've been using lotion on my left hand (not my right- or else my pick can slip easily) before gigs to make playing a lot easier. My strings seem to last a lot longer - the wound strings don't deaden any quicker than usual and the plain strings stay clean for MUCH longer, but I seem to have overlooked an important part - will this harm the neck finish or fretboard? Are there any specific ingredients in lotions that I should be worried about? I've tried that Fast-Fret and Finger-Ease and they both seem to shorten the life of the strings and make them sticky after first use... Lotion seems to be a good deal, unless there is something to worry about?

Hi J

We've never tested this before, but we've also never had anyone contact us about it either so I'm guessing it should be ok and to honest human sweat can more damaging and acidic that many people think

If you notice any discolouration on the neck or ebony then maybe you need to think again.
