Single or Double coil Fishman rare earth for L25?

Postby Joelprid » 07 Dec 2005, 13:43

I have a brand new L25 and am seeking advice on the best way to amplify it. I've tested a Fishman Rare-earth single coil and am impressed. The guy in the shop said the humbucker wouldn't be as good. Any advice would be greatfully received.

Also - where is the truss rod? Is it tricky to get at past the bolt on neck?

Hi - The single coil Rare earth is warm and punchy but like all single coils there is going to be a problem with the 50-60 hz hum - near dimmer switches etc - the humbucker is punchy and vey good - but the new L.R Baggs M1 active is the most acoustic pickup I have yet heard. I have both the humbucker and the M1 - I use the M1 in my L10.
Check out the excellent article on http://www.fingerpick.com/pickups.htm.
its worth looking at.

Sorry I can't you with the pick-up selection, we only keep a set selection of Fishman systems to install.

The truss rod is a Bi-Flex (2-way) and you access it through the soundhole behind the main cross-strut. You need a 5mm hex-ball driver to adjust it easily.

my advice to anyone is never to touch a truss rod unless you've successfully do it before
