Any pickup experience with Pick-up the World?

Postby JRenn19 » 26 Sep 2005, 23:15

Hey all. I own an A320C that I need to put electronics in, and I am EXTREMELY interested in the Pickup the World Dynamic Duo and #54 model systems. Does anybody have experience with these? They seem to give the most natural raw tone (check out dougyoungguitar.com/pickuptest.htm). Only problem is, I don't know if they make a split-saddle USTransducer, so I might HAVE to go with the #54. Anybody have any comments? How bout the guys at the factory?

I use a Stealth and a #54 in my A101C. I have had a few problems with the #54 feeding back in my guitar at rather low volumes. The instalation with those pickups are quite tricky but when they do work, they sound great. I mostly use the steath which is an undersaddle transducer which sounds perfect just as it is. If you are going to invest in the dynamic duo, get yourself a stereo preamp so you can have full control of both of the pickups. In some situations, the #54 will work great by itself (studio), but not so great live.

Thanks Craig. I've really been taking my time throughout this whole decision process, and I think that just about wraps it up. My situation, however much I wanted that dead-on reproduction the #54 could give, requires me to get an undersaddle. I've been using a magnetic soundhole pickup til now, so as to resist feedback, but I think I'm going to do the Pick-up the World Stealth UST with the Fishman Aura imaging system. Tried one at a Fishman booth and was really impressed. Just throwing that out there, in case anyone hasn't had the chance to hear one for themselves. Thanks again, and God bless!

Finally did it...

OK guys, here's the info I promised everyone in one of my posts. I got the Pick-Up the World (Dynamic Duo) installed in my Avalon, and I have to say I am surprised at how surprising the pickup turned out (a little redundance, yes). Think about that for a second. I knew I would be impressed compared to say, a Fishman, just by the un-EQ'd soundclips I'd heard of it on http://www.dougyoungguitar.com/pickuptest.htm. But I had no idea that this thing would capture the nuances of my tone so well. You know that phrase "sounds like your guitar, only louder" phrase that has gotten so overused that you can't take it seriously anymore? I'M GOING TO SAY IT! It sounds like my guitar, only louder. There. It really is incredible. I can't tell you specifically what the tonal differences are for those of you that know the technical terms for different frequencies and stuff, but I can tell you that this pickup sounds exponentially more natural than any system I have ever played plugged in. I just sat in front of my amp (Fishman LoudBox) and drooled as I was playing. For a guitar as special as mine, I am soooooooo glad I got a pickup so special to reproduce the sound in a louder setting. And another thing, this thing needs almost ZERO EQ'ing. Completely flat, it sounds so natural, you wouldn't believe it was the amp making that sound. I have never been able to say that about ANY pickup system I've ever tried out. Amazing.

OH, and by the way - No one paid me to write this up. It's just that good. You guys REALLY need to look into Pick-Up the World. They are definitely the best kept secret in electronics systems for guitars. The website is http://www.pick-uptheworld.com if you need more info. CHECK IT OUT.

God bless you all!

TOLD YOU SO!!!! ;)

I was using my PUTW system in my Avalon A101C this weekend at it sounded very good. I can only use the Stealth, as my #54 has finally cut out. After too many re-placements it just gave out. Glad to hear that your happy!
