On the 27th Nov I was one of the lucky few who had a Meet and Greet with the worlds best acoustic guitarist Tommy Emannuel. One hour before the gig at the Waterfront myself and nine other's meet the great man. Some of the boys had there Avalon's signed' another guy who had just bought he's Maton 808 artist for £700 on ebay was also there with a titanic smile on his face his smile grew even larger when Tommy signed it.
But I must say what a lovely man he is, he chated to us all giving tips about this and that, I told him about my new CD in the making www.myspace.com/michaeldickinson1- you can hear four of the songs on my page although they need to be recorded again before going onto the CD---So what a night we had, we where warmed up by Tommy's support act a very talented lady from Nashvile Pamela Rose who blew us away with her beautiful voice and songs that came from her soul. Her acoustic guitar playing was mellow and magic and the sound in the waterfront was heavenly.Sitting in the second row I still could read the name on the top of her guitar but it sounded first class. In the intermission I bought her CD and got my photo took with her "I even stole a kiss" naughty boy.
Then came Tommy Emannuel like a hurricane from down under, one can assume that this man was given he's gift from God, he's not the world's greatest singer but he is the world's best acoustic Picker. On my way home I thought "what a night" I opened a bottle of wine and sat in my kitchen playing my Avalon and thinking I was right not to bring it along to get signed by Tommy I like it just the way it is. But as I sat playing I refected on my chat with Tommy --when I told him I played an Avalon he said "GREAT GUITAR GREAT GUITAR! I will upload some pic's of the great night soon.

Join the club Mike! Had a great night that night, just wish he had played his "Initiation" at the end, would have topped the performance off nicely. I had the pleasure of meeting him even before he was due to meet people, just called into the Waterfront on the off chance and there he was, not a sinner in the place but him, his tour co-ordinator and the staff.

When he signed my Maton 808, he not only knew every inch of the guitar in terms of wood, but looked at the date stamp on the inside and knew I'd bought it in London  and also spied the bone nut and saddle I got replaced at Avalon. After he signed it he said "there now, slap a nice set of Martin strings on that thing and it'll sound great brother" and I screwed up my face and said "nah - Elixirs " and he just went " condom strings."

Obviously not a fan of them

Tommy Emannuel says Elixirs are condom strings- I agree

Sean thanks for the reply and you know what Tommy was right, stick a set of Martins on that little beauty of yours. When Tommy or should I say the best acoustic guitarist in the world tells you something then do it. Forget all this" but he's endorsed by whoever" he's analogy of Elixirs is so spot on they are condom strings. I recently spent £11-oo on a set of Elixirs I put them on my Avalon201CE --as dead as hector-I sat wondering for a while why this was, I should have known better as I'd tried them a year ago, but I thought these Elixirs might be different. So I came to the conclusion these strings are put on Guitars in music shops because, they are coated and resist all the sweat and dirt of every Tom Dick and Harry who plays them and don't clean them after they play Stairway To Heaven. When was the last time you saw a music shop assistant cleaning strings. Secondly most good guitarist love there guitar and only want to use what they think is the Best strings.
I've played the guitar for 38 year's I'll never be as good as TE but I know lifeless strings when I hear them most people including a lot of guitartist can't tell the different's, other guitarist may say but Elixirs sound good on my guitar and that's great "but" they don't sound good on mine. All the sparkle and Twang went out the widow when I put on the MUSIC SHOP STRINGS-- AND I'm sorry I hav'ent even started on the real reason MONEY!
