Open Mike

Postby onemanband » 09 Oct 2008, 11:19

Hi.
Together with the support of a local publican, I am considering organising a one off "Open Mike" night at our local pub (real ale!!!).
I then thought, it might be an idea to make it an Avalon open mike night (but obviously not to the exclusion of all others), where we Avalon enthusiasts could meet, perform, swap ideas, check out and appreciate each others instruments.
Hopefully, this could become a regular date, depending upon the response, and could possibly lead to a paid gig.
Anyone in or near the West Midlands (B63) interested??
Private messages or replies on the thread would be appreciated.

Cheers.............Brian

Last year I ran a regular Jam Night at my local in Bristol. It was a real eye opener with all sort of musicians turning up including (but not exclusively) Fiddle players, accordions, a myriad of guitarists of all different styles and skill levels (some were mid-blowingly talented), percussionists (bongos, bodhrans, etc), flautists, harmonicas, and even a spoon player. It was surprising just how much good music could be made by such a varied group of people. Open mike nights are good if you can generate enough interest, but with jam nights, it's always possible to come up with an evening of music whether there are 2 or 20 participants, and they lend themselves to other people joining in that would maybe not feel confident in standing on stage by themselves.

Not sure yet John, as I said, it depends on the response, but I was thinking probably mid-week, sometime in the new year, when things go a bit quiet.
Let's see what the response is, and take it from there and............. thanks for your support and interest.

Cheers...Brian.

I would be ups, but, as already said, it's a bit of a trek....especially from Surrey!

Thanks all for the interest so far, really appreciated.
I was expecting more local responses. and whilst being very welcome, I would not expect anyone to travel long distances for an open mike.
I think it's going to be a case of "watch this space"

Cheers.........Brian.
