The future Avalon...

Postby Dattan » 18 Sep 2008, 21:15

So, let's pick up the gauntlet from the last topic:

Where should Avalon go in the future, then? Thoughts, anyone?

I for one like croftys name suggestion: The Avalon Destiny series has a certain ring to it. :) I also agree that the Legacys are way too good to be abandoned, although I realize the marketing value in diversifying the Avalon brand from it's Lowden heritage. (However, I doubt that anyone in his right mind can see the great variety in different guitars and styles that Avalon have, and still claim that they only are Lowden copies.)

I had an intersting conversation today with a Legacy fan. The gist of the chinwag was that no-one thinks less of a guitar maker like Collings for making a better Martin than a Martin (allegedly). Therefore, the argument goes, if we can take an existing guitar format and enhance and improve it, then the improved guitar sets a new standard for the model concerned. I would readily agree that this is what Avalon has done in developing the Legacy series and more recently the Americana series.

A long winded way to say that the Legacy series is core to the Avalon range. Let's remeber that Avalon is still a very young make of guitar, so as we develop, lots of new models will emerge. Already we are seeing how wide ranging the potential is ... there might well be room for a Destiny series!

Why not drop the word 'Legacy' from your guitars? Then they would just be Avalon A32, L10, S320A, etc.

It would be nice to see some more reviews in Guitar Magazines, or even adverts.

Hi,
If you could persuade Andy McKee to have an Avalon signature model (since he is playing an Avalon already), I think that could change a lot for the future of Avalon guitars. Imagine those millions of YouTubers watching him play his Avalon guitar !
All the best,
Chris
