Irish D200ce or Czech D200?

Postby petesteen » 12 Aug 2008, 20:15

Hello, I am new to the forum and have a question regarding these 2 guitars which I have an opportunity to buy at very good prices.

The issue with D200ce is fret end problem and they need to be dressed. The guitar is new but sat in its case and the frets cracked through the fretboard on the sides.

Would it be worth it to buy the D200ce and have the frets dressed or buy a new Czech D200 that has no issues? I like the idea of having a cutaway to access the upper frets as I'm mainly an electric guitar player. Are the Irish made guitars noticeably better than the Czech made? Is there a big difference in tone with the cutaway on Avalon guitars? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thnx,
Pete

Might not be what you're looking for but I've got a Czech-made A100CE for sale on this board.

Last year for a few months I had both a A201c Czech guitar and an Irish A201. Though the Furch guitar was perfectly decent, it didn't sound nearly as good as the Irish instrument. It just seemed tighter and not as responsive to me, though it was sure a pretty guitar. The Irish A201 was fuller, sweeter, livelier. That's the one I kept.

So, I'd say that if the fret and drying issues aren't too costly to fix, go with the Irish Avalon.
