Avalon L10 L-000200

Postby Johnhamdun » 06 Aug 2008, 06:04

Hey JB,

First and Foremost I wanted to impart my sincerest compliments and thanks. It took me 70 hours in the local guitar shop to pick my guitar out. It is the most beautiful guitar I have ever heard (in my hands or otherwise). That was two years ago and nothing has changed. Sadly, my local shop stopped carrying Avalons in favor of Lowden (the owner has known Lowden for a couple of decades) so I considered buying one. But even the brand that was forged so closely with your own just doesn't seem to stand up in comparison.

Now I have two questions: First, Can you tell me anything about my other half? As the subject suggests, it is an L10 with serial L-000200. If you know it, I would love the DOB and anything else you can tell me about her. I've been dating a girl for two years and I don't even know when she was born.

Second, do you have a dealer list somewhere? I would really like to know of any guitar shop in Atlanta, GA, USA that carries Avalons - ESPECIALLY the bevel series. They are *gorgeous*.

Thanks for your time JB and any other forum members that happen to be reading this!

Hi John,

D.O.B. for your L10 / 200 is Feb 04.
We don't have records on dealers stocking Avalon's in the US, that was sorted by our US distributor when we used one in the past.

The 'Bevel' range of guitar are pretty much made to order.

Many thanks for your comments, much appreciated

Do you not have a US Distributor anymore? do you plan to have one in the future?

How much would a L320CMB cost to have made and roughly how long would it take? Also, could I have you guys do a slightly altered decoration around the soundhole?

Thanks JB,

John raises an interesting issue about Avalon's US distributorship which those of you in the US might also be wondering about, so I'll clarify the situation for you. Avalon (in its pre-Avalon life) had it's own distribution in the US (based in Texas) from 1999 - 2004. Then a distributor was appointed when the Avalon Silver series was launched and this arrangement continued until the end of 2006. Two things then brought that arrangement to an end: the retiring of the Silver series and the steady decline in the value of the US$ compared to UK sterling. The dollar hasn't recovered any of its strength yet so it is impossible for a distributor to make a margin and sell at a competitive price.

So, until the exchange rate improves, Avalon maintains direct contact with a few US dealers (none in GA unfortunately) and one of Avalon's directors - Miles McKee - who is based in Nashville, handles dealer and artist relations in the US. (miles@avalonguitars.com). Miles keeps a small stockholding of Avalon's in the US.

There remains a strong level of interest from high end US dealers in Avalon and I'm sure that once the dollar stops behaving like a rupee, there will be a strong presence for Avalon with US dealers again.

John:
Is Maple Street Guitars the shop that used to carry Avalons in ATL but no longer does? Just curious. I talked to them a bit when I started shopping for an Avalon as I had purchased a previous guitar from them. I still email Lindsey about this and that.

I ended up purchasing directly from Avalon, which I highly recommend. You'll still take a hit on conversion rates, but it cuts out the mark-up, so that should help a bit. Also, the customer service is well worth dealing with them directly. Hope this helps.
