Hi Steve,
Thanks for your reply and the info.
I had been looking for a guitar to complement my Taylor 414ce, either as a back up or as a main guitar for gigging. I have been to many guitar shops over the past few months and not found anything which tooted my flute. I visited The Music Room in Cleckheaton (near Bradford) yesterday, which is a folk instrument specialist, but their website showed that they had a good selection of acoustic guitars. The Avalon was the first guitar I picked up and having spent about two hours mucking about with other guitars (the BSG models they import from Czechoslovakia are very impressive) I kept going back to the Avalon and decided to buy it. It has Elixir strings, so it's got the brighter brass sound, rather than the more mellow bronze sound (which I like).
First impressions are: - Bright, but extremely well balanced tone, not boomy at the bottom end, so it should record very well with minimal EQ and compression. Very sweet sounding and loud when you play it hard.
Perfect set up, perfect intonation, playable all the way up the neck. Tried it through an AER compact 60 amp and a Fishman Amp and the pickup and electronics are very true to the acoustic sound.
Sounds better than my (six year old) Taylor, no question. Very pleased. I think I can confidently say that this will become my main gigging guitar and the Taylor can be backup
Cheers,
