Getting the best out of my AS100CE

OK I know the Silver range are 'budget' guitars but this is still the best guitar I am ever likely to own. I play to take my mind off technical stuff so I can relax and unwind. I play some fingerstyle and some flatpicking.

I'm interested in other players views of string types. I keep coming back to Phosphor Bronze for the brighter sound and Martin SP are my current favourites. So Q1 is what other strings would people suggest I try on this guitar.

One shock though was going from Light (12/54) to custom light (11/52) when I had the sudden appearance of fret buzz as well as a slighly 'thinner' tone. Some of this could have been due to the lower tension of the strings but I wondered if the guitar itself might have setlled down so I took it back to the dealer who said the action was excesssively low (hence the buzz) and would need to be set up again. So Q2 is how sensitive is the setup to changing the gauge of string.

I've been really pleased with it up till now and I appreciate my current problems may be self-inflicted but I would appreciate any wisdom from you folks about getting the best from this guitar.

It sounds like you need to release the truss-rod on your guitar. With lighter strings, there is not as much tension on the neck as the strings you had on previously. I would recommend that you take your guitar in to the guitar shop for a fast "tweek". It only takes around 30 seconds to do.
