Warranty

Postby Jomi » 29 Jan 2008, 21:49

I bought my L320 Rio from ebay and the previous owner hasn't registered the warranty (the card is still in the case) can I do it?
Excuse me if that seems a bit of a cheek, it's just such a beautiful guitar it's a shame not to have some form of protection for it. I'm quite willing to pay a reasonable fee for that.

Thank you,

John

Who did you buy it off on ebay? Avalon do sell guitars on ebay under the name irishguitars, and some guitar shops do sell new guitars on ebay. Even a private seller who bought the guitar and never played it would in my mind be selling a new instrument, even though legally speaking it would be second hand.

technically speaking, the warranty is only valid for the original owner, but if you've still got the warranty card I would have been tempted to try it. However, you've scuppered your chances by asking because JB who posts a lot on here is an Avalon employee, so he'll be wise to a John from Durham's warranty request.

Thank a lot Jimbo, oh well - nothing ventured.... It definitely wasn't a shop, it was a private seller and it's definitely second hand, I'm quite happy to be open and honest about it. As I said, I'd be willing to pay a fee, I don't think it's that much different to any other kind of insurance except that this would be for materials/workmanship and not for accidental damage.
Thanks for you reply, I appreciate that you took the time.

Hi John, the warranty is only to the first buyer, however we have been known to transfer the cover but only if we inspect the guitar in person and there would be a charge ... I know that's not always practical but it's the only way we can do it, especially for a expensive model like Brazilian Rosewood, we must confirm it's condition.

Serial numbers are logged with the first time buyer even if they don't fill out the warranty form.

Thank you Jim, you're right it is a bit impractical for me. My girlfriend wants to visit Ireland at some point in the future, she may want me to go too!! So maybe I'll raise this warranty issue with you again. :D

take care,

John
