Avalons for light touch fingerstyle?

Postby anton » 21 Jan 2005, 02:10

I am in the market for a new guitar. A friend of mine has and reccomends an Avalon. I have played his a bit but not enough to form a good impression. I am in Tallahassee, FL, so there are no dealers close by.

How do you all feel Avalons respond to a light fingerpicking touch? I play mostly celtic music in alternate tunings, and need something that responds and projects well. I was considering an A201, but am kind of worried about the bigger size body. My main guitar has been an OOO Martin, so i am kind of used to that size.

Do Avalons have larger than normal frets? That is my impression from the one i played. What is the scale length for the A201?

Hi

I would recommend the cedar top version for light picking, and rosewood provides a bold detailed backdrop, so the A201 would suit nicely, in the Legacy range the A25 would also meet these requirements with more dynamic touch sensitive response and depth of tone. As far as the frets go we use a medium guage Jim Dunlop 6155 wire. Please contact our distributor MDG in New Jersey for stockist information on 973 394 0400

I purchased my guitar from Jim Tozier. Jim plays celtic style and has recorded several CDs. The A101ce is perfect for this style of music. The cedar top and mahogany b&s really project a lot of volume and sparkling tone. It's great for light fingerstyle.

Cedar top seconded - I got my L25 for precisely this.
