I was on the Fender Board and the guys over there said that the A-200CE was a $900 guitar made in Korea. I had to point out to them that they were talking about the SILVER version A(S)200CE. Anyways, a debate has ensued over whether I paid too much or not and if mine is a Gold or a Silver. I KNOW mine is a GOLD...Ebony fret board alone gives it away, not to mention tuners, woods, inlay, serial number, warranty, etc...
I gues I'm wondering why Avalon made these model numbers so close and if anyone else has run into this confusion as well?

It doesn't matter what they think... You know what you have and they should be jealous... You have a fine guitar!!!
To answer your question... The Gold Series numbers are very low... If you have seen a Avalon Silver series with a number lower then 1000, your looking at one of the first Silver guitars. From what I noticed, most of the Silvers I have been in contact with have serial numbers from around 4000 and up.

The FDP?? I wouldn't pay any attention to what they say in that place
I think the model number system is good - there's a very obvious 'S' in the designation for the MIK guitars.
Besides, don't take any nonsense from Fender fans over part numbers - have you seen the product codes for Fender guitars??!!

OK I'll try any make the serial number thing a bit clearer.
Any guitars built in the Avalon factory, here in Newtownards will have a fairly simple serial number like 00395 on the neck block and / or L00395 on the label .... that's for the Legacy models.
The Gold models will have something like A00785 on the block and the same on the label.
These numbers are issued in sequence as the guitars are made so in theory there can be 2 guitars out there, one with L00395 and one with A00395 .... one Legacy, one Gold.
As for the Silver the Korean's have their own system for serials. It's fairly simple to, infact quite logical .... a Silver guitar will have a serial like 0410395 this is infact 04 10 395 ...... yes ... now you see it
It's the Year - Month - and number of guitar made in that given month.
I quite like that system for practical reasons, like tracking a guitars build date but it's not very pleasant to look at, there's something very pleasing when you get a guitar and the serial number corresponds to some personal number or date.
We've had some people insist on certain serials .... not too often but it does happen.
Anyway, hope this has made things as clear as mud

Q - sorry, I mean JB - could build all sorts of gadgets into it:
It could have a rocket launcher for eliminating noisy punters at the bar...
or, it could fire tranquiliser darts for when the singer is being a pain...
what about a built in smoke machine for when you have to make a swift exit stage left?..
or, if it could transform into a Telecaster when it's time to take a solo!!
Well, perhaps a built in tuner would suffice.

I don't know the exact serial number of my A200CE, but he has had it for at least 6 months. As a rep he's given guitars to evaluate and demo, I guess he just rarely took this one out of it's case. I hope it's a low SN...that would be cool.
