best guiitar for worship setting

Postby linkage » 02 Dec 2004, 23:19

Hey: I just got my Gold series 201 CE, and Have been using it to lead worship at our church. I got the mic/undersaddle fishman blender pickup with the guitar, and it sounds amazing. I have only had the guitar for about 3 weeks, but it is awsome. My larrivee is now collecting dust.

thank you for your info...I have a taylor 614CE with the expression and a Anderson Crowdster, but just something missing. I'm probably going to get rid of my Crowdster. I've been seeing this guitar here and there in magazines. I got to go and try one. thanks again.

You might want to try any of the 'A' or 'D' Avalon Gold spruce tops as good well balanced strummers. They have plenty of projection with a good 'fat' mid-range. Where do lead worship?

Oh this is of interest to me too. I currently use a Westfield beast. Does the job but it seriously needs upgrading. It's starting to show/sound its age.

I keep breaking strings on it too. 5 over the weekend while leading worship. Scary. I really would love to know if it's the guitar's fault or my playing style. It's not the strigs as I've tried all sorts.

I don't think I've broke 5 strings in 18 years of playing!!

Time for an Avalon methinks! :D

I broke a string tonight on my leccie too but that was because I started jumping up and down and mis-strummed catching the B wrong... :?

I just bought a Gold A-200CE and the sound is amazing. The Cedar tops definitely have a destinctive sound, but I went with the SitkaSpruce because strumming can be brutal on Cedar. I played both the AS-201CE and the AS-200CE and though I really liked the Cedar tone for finger picking, I will also be strumming quite a bit during worship and the practicality of the Spruce for that application won out. Don't get me wrong, the Spruce top sounds awesome!...they are just both a little different from eachother. If it were me, playing worship and strumming like I plan on doing with this guitar, I'd go Spruce...holds up better - unless of course you plan on ONLY fingerpicking...then go Cedar...02¢

So what you're saying is that cedar is less durable?

Cedar is a softer wood, so the sound is fuller, but it also mars more easily...

I just wanted to add something... I feel that using a Mahogany body with a Spruce top has always worked best for me with Worship...

When you have a Rosewood body, it produces much more bass which can cause some unwanted feedback in the process when getting up to higher volumes.

We don't seem to have an accoustic guitar feedback problem which is a real blessing.
