Calton cases, anyone...?

Postby Dattan » 31 Oct 2006, 23:27

Hi!
Are there anyone out there who have had any experience with Calton cases? In such case (pun intentioned...), would you say that they are that much better than the regular Hiscox that the price tag implies?

Never heard of them before and you can't see a lot in the pictures but why bother paying more when hiscox ones do the job so well? They're waterproof and can withstand the dude in my local guitar shop standing on them (who, with the greatest of respect, is rather fat.) :)

A friend of mine has a Calton case for his guitar. It is HEAVY, and very sturdy! It is useful if you travel a lot, especially by plane. Two adults can stand on top of it and it will not crack. But for everyday use, it's not so practical because of the weight.

Two regular adults, or one fat, thats the question then... :)
No, seriously, thanks for the input this far. The weight issue of the case itself is worth looking in to.

If you're an Avalon owner then the chances are you've already got a hiscox. If calton's are any better (which will probably be subjective anyway) then they won't be much better. Why bother spending the money?

Yep, I am a happy owner of both an Avalon and a Hiscox :)
I am about to order my dream guitar however (another Avalon of course...), and just thought that I should look it up, as I have heard some good things about Calton. To my understanding they are made of glass fibre instead of ABS plastic, which should make some difference, I guess.
But you have a point, Hiscox are good...

I live in Nashville, TN, and I'm the only one I know with a Hiscox case. They seem to be pretty big in Europe, but they just typically aren't around here in the US.

There are obviously a lot of acoustic musicians around here, and I can't even count how many of the professionals i come across have Caltons. Granted, these are guys that tour a lot, but play guitars almost as nice as ours. And a lot that I see are scuffed pretty bad. They look like they've taken a lot of abuse, yet the artists still trust them to protect their guitars. That should say a bit.

I don't think I would even mess with the thought of a Calton unless you were touring rigorously, though. My Hiscox has done me quite well. 8)

God bless.

Thanx for the feedback. A Nashville guitarist with a Northern Irish guitar - That can't be a too common combination...?

You are all too correct. I'm the only one I know here that owns an Avalon. I'm sure there are a couple around here, I just never see any. EVERYONE always asks me about mine though, and I never tire of telling them... :D

I will say that I have the envy of all my fellow players in that guitar. It is truly a beautiful sounding instrument. I fall in love with everytime I play it.

And I don't even have a Calton...

It´s the inside that counts then, after all... ;)
