Lefthanded Gold and Silver Series Avalons?

Postby That Dutch guy » 27 Nov 2004, 20:00

Hi there,

I'm new to this website (and new to Avalon guitars, I stumbled upon them this afternoon in a strictly acoustic guitarstore here in The Hague, the Netherlands). I've been demonstrated an AS100 and an AS200 (no frills, no electronics, no cutaway - the way I like 'em) and was highly impressed with especially the latter one, for the money!

I know you shouldn't let a salesperson just demonstrate the guitar, and how I would have wanted to play these guitars! But being lefthanded, sometimes you just don't have any choice. Searching for a grand concert or grand auditorium sized guitar, I ran into these Avalons. Could any of you tell me whether these Korean-made Avalons are available lefthanded, and if so, which models?

I fear I already know the answer :( , yet it never hurts to ask  . Would any of you have other suggestions for lefthanded grand concert or grand auditorium sized guitars available under 1000 euros? (app. the same amount in dollars, but I wouldn't have a clue how many British Pounds that would be  ).

I'm already checking out the Seagull S6+ Folk (also no cutaway, but electronics are an option. Laminated cherry back and sides, silverleaf maple neck, Indian rosewood bridge and fingerboard, solid cedar top).

Could you help me out?

Hi Dutch guy!
Glad you could join us here at the Avalon forum! Good news and ... well, delayed news ... the left handed Silver series guitars are due to lauch next year (around March/April). They'll be the same price as their right handed cousins and will be available in the grand auditorium shape only. Alternatively, a custom made Avalon Gold left hander made by the Avalon luthiers in Ireland, can be obtained through any dealer at a retail price of Euro1360 (plus tax) for a non-cutaway, non-electric mahogany/spruce or mahogany/cedar. A friendly dealer might even discount it to nearer Euros1000! The model ref would be A100LH (spruce top) or A101LH (cedar top).
All the best!

Thanks for your kind reply!
Sounds interesting, although I would have preferred rosewood back and sides, its tone is somewhat more appealing to me than that of mahogany. But nevertheless I'll seriously consider the option and ask a salesperson to give a righthanded version a testrun for me to listen to one and check one out, and maybe try to play it upside down just to get an impression of the 'feel' of the guitar.
