Custom But not by much

Postby hmg722003 » 04 May 2006, 22:34

I have been looking at the A101, but am interested in slightly wider string spacing at the nut and at the bridge. Other than that, I dont need any other custom items. Any idea as to the additional cost and does this go throug a dealer or how would I proceed?

Thanks

Hi Pat, we would not charge anything if all you want is wider string spacing on a standard neck, I wouldn't class it as custom anyway it's more a customer set-up preference.

You need to go through a dealer in US, if you don't have a local dealer then call here http://www.avalonguitars.com/contact.htm

JB

Thanks for your prompt response. What I am looking for is string spacing at the bridge to be either 2&1/4 inches or even 2&3/8 inches, and the string spacing to be just a hair wider at the nut or put another way, maximizing the current nut width without crowding the edge too much. Is this do-able?

Thanks

Hi Pat

In theory yes or should I say just about for the 2 1/4 ... but depending on playing style you will probably experience string drop-off on the fingerboard edge.

No Chance for the 2 3/8

JB...thanks for the info and now another question, assuming I wanted to go the custom route but nothing more then getting the nut and bridge spacing that I wanted can you give me in US$ an idea of the upcharge?

Thanks

The standard US retail upcharge for a wider neck is $300 for going to a 45mm neck or 48mm for example.

But that's full retail, most dealers work with some discount for their customers.
