Irishguitars: Buying through Ebay, by a happy buyer!!

Postby guiturner » 23 Apr 2006, 13:19

Hi all,

I have "just" bought a brand new Avalon S32 through EBay and I will post a review of the guitar soon but I think that the good service provided during the whole purchase process deserves its own post.

I have used quotes because that was nearly tree weeks ago… and I have tried to post a review since then… you can count one more victim of POONA (Proud Owner Of New Avalon Syndrome).

I will not talk about the guitar itself in this post but if any of you is thinking about buying one of the guitars that Avalon have on EBay, you may find it interesting.

It is a long post, but I hope it would be worth reading.

First the EBay ad:
-The text: Welcome, brief history, model details with a personal appreciation, contact email and phone, shipping details, payment details and final thanks.
-The photographs: Clear and optional high resolution photos, Headstock, full body, full guitar, back, close up’s of top and other details.

PERFECT…you can’t really ask for more… I would really like to see more ads like this. It has it all: eye candy photographs, detailed description and a “humanâ€

I'm gonna!!!

One day I'll either get a good deal by visiting the factory or getting one off Ebay. Thanks for great post!!

My question is; does Jim and the guys ever sell Golds on Ebay?

Hi Guiturner

Thank you very much for your kind comments and trust, I / we fully appreciate them.
We like to interact and chat with customers as much as possible before a purchase or after a purchase but before sending any guitar, it's better for the customer and definitely better for us :D

I try to make the ads on e-bay as clear and accurate as possible .... i tend to understate the description ever so slightly just to be on the safe side.

I also base the ads on what I'd like to see if I was buying the guitar, the right photo's from the right angles, it's a pity e-bay limit it to 12 photos, the last Jumbo Rio (sold on Friday) I took about 20 photos and would liked to have posted them all ... ah well I must have picked the right ones since it sold anyway but it was one of our most fabulous sets of old growth rio, delicious  i think the buyer will be very happy :D

Sam - we don't really put Gold's up as a rule but there's nothing says an intersted party can't call me at the factory for a "special" deal

cheers everyone
Jim

Hi Guiturner, congrats on your new guitar ! I'd love an S someday too :P . These are great deals on e-bay. Very tempting, indeed it's the moment to strike  , I must force myself not to look bought one already just a few months ago... arrrgh   As you said however, buying from the internet is not the same as buying an instrument you've held in your hands. I hope these internet deals will not discourage dealers of stocking Avalon guitars !

As for the guitar - I had heard from someone in the know that this was something special and they were certainly right. It is an Avalon Eclipse - you won't see it on the site - and it has to be heard to be believed. I will write a full review in a day or two, once I have collected my thoughts, come back to earth and recovered from POONA.

You bought the eclipse?!? That is one crazy acoustic! Just from the size of the thing it must sound abolutely immense but my A is louder than some jumbos I've played. With that in mind I suspect your neighbours aren't very happy! Nice one! :)
